Yondering (verb) – actualizing the yearning to adventure, to roam,
to wander in an unspecific direction toward an indeterminate objective,
usually over hill(s) and out of sight.
(urbandictionary.com)

Yondering Ltd is committed to creating running events with a unique character – events with personality rather than just ‘vanilla’ road and trail runs. The focus of Yondering is on the Manawatu-Whanganui region and the wider lower central North Island.

We strive to create events that are inclusive, personal, affordable, professional, environmentally friendly and fun.

About

g&wManawatu-based running events company Yondering Ltd is headed up by husband and wife duo Gerry and Wouna le Roux. We have long been part of the running scene, having participated in a wide range of road and trail events, including marathons, ultras, circuit races and multi-day stage races. We have been involved, as organisers and volunteers, in the staging of numerous running and walking events, both locally and internationally.

Being runners, first and foremost, we understand what people want from events, and we will spare no effort to satisfy these requirements.

Gerry is a professional photographer with a background in management and business development, while Wouna is a graphic designer and artist with a web design background. This combination of skills enables us to cover most aspects of event management, from creating and maintaining event websites, handling advertising and promotion (both online and traditional), event management and sponsorships.

A major part of the success of Yondering derives from the wonderful team of volunteers contributing to our events. No event will be possible without the selfless contribution of volunteers, and we strive to make our events as fun and rewarding for our volunteers as it is for our participants.

The Manawatu Moonlight Madness is a fun, family-friendly and affordable nighttime trail running / walking series. Scheduled over three consecutive Wednesday nights, the series takes in Palmerston North, Levin and Ashhurst, for a showcase of awesome trails in the region.

The series starts with the New Moon Shenanigans, an exciting jaunt in Palmerston North, running next to the Manawatu river. Second up is the Half Moon Hoopla, an invigorating, hilly outing in the Kohitere Forest outside Levin. Finally, we head to Ashhurst for the Full Moon Folly, a fun, social saunter through the Ashhurst Domain trails, including a leg-stretch along the Manawatu river trail.

RunBuys

  • Keen on doing events, but limited in terms of budget?
  • Willing to help out at events, but keen to get some reward in return?

If you answered ‘yes’ to the above, RunBuys is for you! By helping out at our events, you earn RunBuys, which can be traded in for discount on our event entries. We have created RunBuys as a means of rewarding the invaluable support we receive from our wonderful event volunteers, without whom we will not be able to continue offering community-focused events that are affordable and inclusive.

Here’s how it works:

  • For every half hour of volunteering at one of our events, you earn 1 RunBuys point.
  • A RunBuys point is worth 2kms in any of our events.
  • Once you’ve earned enough RunBuys you can use them to get a discount into one of our events. Some examples:
    • 6 hours of volunteering earns you 12 RunBuys, which is “worth” 24kms, and can thus effectively earn you free entry into the North Range Traverse 25km event.
    • 2.5 hours of volunteering earns you 5 RunBuys, equating to 10kms, which gives you free entry into any of our 10km night runs in the Manawatu Moonlight Madness series.
  • You can accumulate RunBuys until you have enough for free entry, or use any RunBuys you have as partial payment/discount for an event.

If you’re interested in signing up to our RunBuys initiative, please get in contact via the Contact page, or email us at yondering.events@gmail.com.

RunBuys currently apply to Yondering events only, but we are working towards getting some other events on board as part of this initiative in future.
